I have just about exhausted all of the free directories out there and am starting to venture into getting paid directory listing to keep my link building campaign going and I hear that the Yahoo Directory is the best one out there but they charge $299 a year for a listing... more than twice what even the closest competitor charges. Will it really bring me over $300 in results?

on my observation for using yahoo search engine, most of the time the site or results that are appearing at the first page are listed in yahoo directory.

That's what I heard and I would hope that for $300 bucks they would give me a little edge in their search results.

well,, personally i'd never pay 300$ for a mere listing in directory, who uses yahoo anyway nowadays? but i believe u just pay for a Page Ranking here, yahoo directory, if i recall, is PR8, so u just get a permanent link for this price. still, it's damn overpriced IMO.

There was a time, long, long ago when paying the inclusion fee was well worth it. At that point, Yahoo would focus and in fact feature the directory results. I can remember when a single $300 fee, and even still worth it when they moved to $300 a year was a great value as so much traffic came from yahoo when their directory was center stage. Of course, then they changed that when they bought inktomi and of course it got even worse when they focused on ppc. Interestingly enough as the value of a directory listing went way down, the price went up. I would say unless you are a big company that needs your name out there, don't spent the money.

yes, u r right robert, some big companies tent to submit their websites to paid directories because it's prestigious; will make them look good in their clients' eyes, like hey, i invest so much in my business, u can trust us... but assuming that yahoo is not the only directory u need to submit too, 300$ is still damn overpriced.

I don't think the rate is limited to listing alone for a year. There must be other value added services that come with the rate. Many still bite the offer because $299 is cheap especially for big companies which tap endorsers to market their respective products and services.

I don't think it is worthy because though Yahoo directory has a higher Page Ranking on the main page but on the inside pages it don't have a PR8. So it is better to invest the same amount of money for links on some similar niche content based website or blog.
