Default Yahoo offers too many products

Yahoo just launched a new food section. I know they are number one and have to keep that position but do you think that maybe they have lost focus? I mean, if they would focus on top notch search, maybe they can recapture the market share they deserve.

They're obviously scared and scrambling...I think they do need to refocus. It's better to have a smaller, succesful niche and slowly build upon that than a vast unfocused business that no one pays attention too.

i agree with you guys. Yahoo has a long way to go to catch up with Google when it comes to search result. now that google feels secure about it's searching capabilities, it's branching out to other things (IM, etc). YM on the other hand has resorted to developing/offering new things forgetting that they are first and foremost, a search engine. i used to use Yahoo for searching now i just use google. One sign that google beat yahoo as a search engine? the term "Googled" and "Googling" were coined instead of "Yahooed" or "Yahooing".

What is interesting is that Google figured this out already in that they are no longer going to put so much focus on new stuff but rather features to existing stuff.

hmmm, that's an interesting statement, Akoon.. On the contrary, the lack of outside advertising shows just how successful google is. The Internet being the main form of entertainment for many and the fact that Google has become a part of our everyday language.

Did you know that you cannot use the word Googled or Googling except in context to Google? Google issued a directive about trademark infringement if you use the term otherwise

I can understand Yahoo! wanting to branch out into retail as well, especially since there is a lot of money in that business.

Yahoo! may be number two to Google in many factors, but I don't see how you can turn it down.
IMO, Yahoo! Mail is the best email service to date, it definitely beats Gmail by a mile!

well if yahoo no longer can win over google with the search engine, then why not add other products to train and maintain some kind of "status". i think it is worth a try and atleast it could make more people interested in yahoo, if it is done correctly.
