According to Michele Gershberg and Eric Auchard Yahoo has issues being sicially successful. The opinion writers put a part of the blame on new social giants such as MySpace, YouTube and Facebook.

Yahoo may become more aggressive in buying a fast-growing social network, analysts said, amid speculation it is interested in smaller MySpace rival Facebook.

That pressure is already high since web rival Google agreed to buy video sharing site YouTube for $US1.65 billion ($2.2 billion) last week.

"Facebook is only of value if Yahoo pays the right price," Cowen & Co analyst Jim Friedland said, referring to reports the two companies discussed a $US1 billion price tag.

I don't know if it's worth it. Facebook needs a lot of work to even hold a candle to MySpace. Facebook worked as a special network for college students, who probably felt MySpace was aimed at a younger crowd. However, MySpace's popularity has made it good for anyone of any age or background. Facebook lacks the bulletin feature, and has privacy issues.
