Default How much impact

How much impact do you guys think the design of a website has on the success of the website/business. I think it must look professional and be easy to navigate for starters.

Looking proffesional and easy, simple navigation with an asthetically pleasing touch to it will attract and cause attention to the visitor. To me I always look upon a visitor to a site as a potential customer/client. Evaulate any open door possible in a way that will lure that visitor in and transforming them into a customer or client.
A poor ,cheaply made design will more then likely turn away the user and he will go else where.

Huge impact!

Take this for example. The company I work for has a website which sells journals to academic people. The previous design of the site was so horrible and so far behind that instead of generating sales, it was actually losing more. Our team came up with a new design, a clean and fresh look. We also added new features to the site. The overall enhancements done to the site had a huge impact and now, it is our second highest income-generating site.

That's a great example of how important the design of a website really is.

Your website content is the core. But to make the visitors read it and keep coming back you must have a smooth, comforable design.

Agree, messy websites never help, you need a clean comfortable look

The web design is to your content what your clothing is to yourself. If you walked around looking disgusting in dirty old clothes, nobody would even take the time to get to know you. It works the same with websites.
