Hi,
I am not really sure if this is the right area to post this but I can't find a more suitable one. I am really just after some advice in this thread. I will be creating a small 3D virtual world with buildings etc for an online game. What would be the best software to use for this. The graphics are going to be very high quality and you will be able to choose your character / use mouse to move them. You will be able to see / interact with other players too. I was thinking of using Flash & Action script for the actual game and PHP & My SQL for registering users. Is this a good route to go down? Is there a better option? I have seen people use Shockwave to do similar things but I don't really want to force people to download a plugin to play (I know Flash is a plugin, but more people have it). Since I don't have a lot of skill in any of those areas I will be looking for talented people to help me. I am really good with XHTML, CSS & Internet Marketing so I would be doing the layouts etc, get exposure etc. I just need to know what I would use so that I can start looking for people to join me. Thanks, justin |

Blender seems to be fairly popular as well as it being a free 3d app.

You are going to have to look at whether you want to embed the game on a page, or let the users download the then connect to servers or similar.
If it is the former, then you will need to stick to flash or shockwave. If it is the latter, then you can check out 3DMax or maybe even Maya. However, both these have a steep learning curve.
