The big difference is storage.

Blue Ray:
  • ROM single layer: 23.3 / 25GB
  • ROM dual layer: 46.6 / 50GB
  • RW single layer: 23.3 / 25 / 27GB
  • RW dual layer: 46.6 / 50 / 54GB
  • Highest test: 100GB
  • Theoretical limit: 200GB

HD-DVD:
  • ROM single layer: 15GB
  • ROM dual layer: 30GB
  • RW single layer: N/A
  • RW dual layer: N/A
  • Highest test: 45GB
  • Theoretical limit: 60GB

From what I have seen Blu Ray looks so much better. At my local Best Buy they have 2 identical TVs next to each other one with Blu Ray set up and one with normal DVD player with the HD DVD. They both have identical surround sound systems connected. both playing the same movie. The Blu Ray looks and sounds so much better.

Blue Ray by far.

The quality of Blue Ray is so good it makes DVDs look crap.
