which is best? the office that microsoft makes or "open office" ? i have not tried open office myself, but heard that it is good from someone, and that is why im asking.

OpenOffice all the way.
Free, more features, smaller and faster.
Regular updates too, not just security updates but extra features and improvements.

Its OpenOffice for me. The ability to open PDF, convert to PDF in a jiffy, and so many more features that it has makes me use only OpenOffice!

It's worth giving it a try, although it is a large download.
They will ship a CD to you if you want, although there is a small charge.

Or you could start using a Linux distro such as Ubuntu - in which OOo comes for free!
