Default ide/sata to usb

any tried using such converters which let you use ide hard discs or sata harddicscs to pc via usb? i bought one from google some time ago and it is really useful, but one thing is annoying about it and that is the fact that it needs a power adapter for ide hardiscs or drives, usb power is not enough.

never heard of it before but sounds interesting. i guess that would replace the external harddisks/cd drives, but i dont think it would be as perfect.

have one and using it, it works good for normal use but i noticed that burners wont burn if through usb cable, so it is indeed not perfect.

yes that is also a problem, and im not sure why that happens, it might be because the driver made for it is incomplete or simply just made for reading from the cd roms instead of read/write

i wouldnt burn cds or dvds using usb anyway, with a mistake or too the usb cable could come out a little and ruin the whole burning process, you should just using it for harddisks or for reading from cds/dvds

well i just checked on ebay and the price is between 10-25$ with shipment. it is also different from a case for harddisks as it works for cd drives too, so i dont know if you can compare it that way

i have one and bought it only because i sometimes need to take my harddisk with me to other places, i wouldn't recommend it for normal use as usb can after all break easily, and the harddisks should be out of the pc for a long time as they could fall etc plus that cd burners wont burn with usb cable, but if it is for some time to use your harddisk somewhere else then it is a good idea
