Default USB "Lamps"

Have you ever used or seen a USB lamp?

A friend of mine had one, and he was kind enough to give me a spare one that he had. It's pretty much a mini lamp for your PC. You just plug one end to your USB port and it shines some light.

It looks like this: http://www.macstuff.nl/images/randap...d/flylight.gif

There's no driver required, and I'm pretty sure it works on any PC that has a USB port regardless of the OS.

It would work from the moment the power was turned on, and like you said, would work on any platform.

It likely utilizes the 4.75–5.25 volts on pin 1 of the USB port. More than enough power to drive a small LED lamp.

That sounds like a great idea, I might just have to try that out soon.
Thanks for the link, I like the design, it's nifty.

So how about USB trouble lights for getting down into the back when you're checking and fixing cables, or looking for a marking inside the CPU on a piece of hardware etc... ?

Cheers.

ahhh it looks like a great idea as well

But how would it power it self? batteries?

And being that the CPU is already hot most times won't it increase the hotness?

most of my usb ports are used for one thing or another, so i would have trouble finding a place to connect one of those, the idea is still good enough though.

i have one and it is nice, i also bought somekind of power adaptor for my laptop that has a usb port, that way i can use the light regardless of wether the pc is on or off.

i would surely like one of those, i might consider buying one via ebay or something, it would be very useful since i need a few extra lamps.
