What about Spyware?

What are you using to combat Spyware?
I'm just using MS Windows Defender and thought it was working just fine but lately it really slows down a lot and although defender says I'm clean, sometimes I wonder.
Any recommendations for something you've tried that's free and works?
I'm paranoid of malware disguised as anti-spyware....

I guess I'll start running a secondary one just to be sure that I don't put my trust completely in defender.

Spybot S&D is really good I also like lavasoftusa.com.

Windows Defender is still in Beta mode. Once its' full it will not be free. Personally I'm using SpyBot-SD -- this is a free software also and works real well!

Adaware from Lavasoft is another good one:

Thanks, everyone.
I'm going to install one more and see if Defender really did 'defend' me or not because although it says I'm clean and I keep it updated, I know sometimes I slow down to a crawl and it behaves as if it's infested with spyware..

i know it is stupid not to use anything, but i just don’t know what to use, and using anything carelessly would just slow my computer, so i’m not using anything but searching for a good one.

I’m using giant antispywar which works fine with me. i have used adaware before, but it does not seem to detect spyware but something else, and is not enough to protect the pc.
