Help with Mod Rewrite

Mod Rewrite makes links much shorter and easier to remember. I want my links to be http://example.com/file/file instead of http://example.com/file/file.html
Anyone here know much about mod rewrite that can help me?

RewriteRule ^(.*) /$1.html
