Can't remove directly

I create a directory called

--directory

now I can't remove it and it's messing everything up.

I've tried

rm -rf --directory
rm -rf "--directory"
rm -rf '--directory'

suggestions?

Can you rename it? Maybe if you can rename it, then you will be able to delete it.

Why is it causing so many problems? You can't just leave it.
