Default Hits or Unique visitors?

How many times do you get people who are bragging about the number of hits their site gets and yet when you check it out they are using some free hit counter and each page has 20 or more images for the menu alone!

One potential client got upset when I pointed out his thousands of hits actually equated to a few hundred unique visitors and that one of those visitors was his own pc (every day).

As a result I always give my clients a demonstration of how to use their stats analysis in cpanel. They absolutely adore this service :)

What are your stories on hits and visitors?

I have actually run into quite a few people who use hits and unique visitors interchangeably.

It's a variety of things that determine how valuable your hits are... for example, one of my sites gets about 4500 to 5300 hits a day from 1500 to 1700 unique visitors.

However, the hits come almost entirely from forums directed toward children and from visitors in Thailand (I don't know why, but it is what it is ). So, if I were to try and sell links I'd probably have some trouble with it - not everyone sells products that would ship to Thailand, and kids don't generally shop online.

They both hav etheir values. For example a lo tof hits but few uniques means I have a steady user base. Meaning people that return to my site at least each day. But uniques tell me how many new ones checkout the said site and the next week or so I get to see how many of my uniques stayed around to become everyday hits for me. So they are very useful to me both.

Thank You

Unique refer to the new visitor (same ip) to the website on that day.
Hit refer to the number of visitors (same ip with multiple visit included) to the website that day.
So usually Unique visitors are usually lesser than hits.

I get around 120 unique visitors a day. It's not bad a for site that's incomplete.

Yeah, that's definitely not bad for an incomplete and unmarketed site. Good luck with it!

I had a good percent between Hits /unique. so I think I'm doing good, most visits form the USA, that is Another good thing. I think both are important, so I try to boost both of them.
