Default Server Administration on a Shared Host

How much server administration, if any, should someone have when working on a shared host. What can't a person on a shared host have that a person with their own dedicated host have?

Default Re: Server Administration on a Shared Host

I haven't understood your question clearly, atleast the first part.

But if you are on a shared host, you have very limited, if no server administration. The little you have is what the control panel offers you.

The next step would be Resellers. Here, you need to learn a lot more about server administration, like creating and managing accounts, DNS Zones and troubleshooting mail etc. to a small extent. Again limited.

When you move to VPSes and Dedicated Servers, you are expected to know a lot more.

You will need to know how to boot your server, manage accounts, optimize processes, secure the unit etc.
A steep learning curve, but well worth it.

My advice, don't shift unless you need to or unless you really want to.
