Database for C

I want to do a project in C language for which i need to connect a database. I heard that i can connect MS Acces and use it. But i do not know how to do it. Also please let me know if there is any other database can be connected. I have a doubt too. Can i connect oracle as a database while using C?

Well, you did can connect MS Access and use it, and you even can connect Oracle as the database while you're using C...

The point is do you really need to use Oracle for the project here, as it's will cost you a sum of money...
