It's my first with PHP, which I had almost no understanding of prior to starting the site. I used open realty as the PHP platform, and so am a bit confined in my design by the limitations of it. Basically, I'm just looking for any type of constructive criticism, creative ideas, whatever... I'm at the point where I don't really know what to do to make the site more attractive, or attention grabbing, flashy, etc., and i think that's what the client is looking for.

well yeah try to have site by css and css2.Well the most attractive parts of webpage are,LOGO,Banner,Template, colour matching, clean.these are the key for making an attractive website .So for this you should to be good in graphic designing and if you can so make your own template otherwise get free template or paid which looks better on your site.but always keep the site clean and fast ,fast website attract users to itself.
Thanks

CSS 2 has more attributes and is a more recent version. CSS 2.1 and CSS 3 are in the working draft stages. HTML's last version was 4.01 back in 1999, right now the use of XHTML 1.0 and 1.1 is preferred.

I don't find that it matters that much, because half the time browsers don't follow the standards anyway. You can program in CSS1 or CSS2; it won't matter, because browsers are reading there own crazy CSS.

Using CSS is the best & finest way to shine your site rather than using images that consume BW and taking long loading time even optimized ones...
