Smarty vs. FastTemplate

Hello ya'll,

Which one are you guys using? I use FastTemplate but I heard about this Smarty template system couple of months ago... Is it really that good?

I've heard of Smarty a good deal back. Never got down to implementing it. I know that Coppermine uses it and I think even Gallery2.

Found it too complicated for me to use.

I find Smarty would be really useful if you have some kind of software that would let users use different themes or you like to make changing the overall template of your site easy.

I've never used either of these. What are they exactly? What service do they provide to PHP coders?
