I think Google would probably have to start spending more in marketing. If Yahoo and MSN merged the advertising dollars could be better spent with the focus of a combined brand. Right now Google doesn't have to spend much in marketing, but if the two other big dogs combined it's possible Google would have to step it up a notch to keep it's comfortable lead.

Just think of this, by combining yahoo and msn into one powerful, suddenly it's neck and neck at 44% for Microsoft, 44% for Google. This will probably come out at the time that Microsoft is releasing Vista which means virtually every computer in the world at one point will have Microsoft's portal home page on the new browser. I can only imagine that will push Microsoft over the top and suddenly, instant win. I do have a feeling it's a personal thing being that Google has beat Microsoft and Microsoft plays to win, otherwise they wouldn't look at spending so much to beat out a company.

Nice point robert I had not thought about that. I know vista is not to far away and if they lauched togther by then like they always do all the machines would be loaded with everything to point users to their service that could pack a punch in it if they took that road.

I dont think thy will be buying it, yahoo won't have been making all that changes in each service they give, then sell it all out. If MS bought yahoo I won't be using that website anymore.

I'm guessing they wouldn't change the business model of Yahoo at all. It would probably be more of a combined effort to shift traffic from Google to one of the other two.

Still, they've both been coming out with too many new products to think that they are considering combining. They both have huge shares of a large market, and I think their looking to expand and beat the other, not combine.

I disagree with this. They can beat on each other all they want, but Google is still king and will rip them to shreds unless they make some serious changes.

I don't know what will happen. Both companies have a lot of potential for great profits as the stand now, but they can't beat Google.

I don't think they are going more closer then this. After all Yahoo also have to see its own benefits and business. They are going to maintain some distance between themselves.

Sure they will definitely keep some distance so that both can have good business. There are many news that Microsoft is going to buy Yahoo but if they are doing well with such strategy then I think there is no need to buy Yahoo.
