I know that everyone wants free and i dont argue with that, if I say I live in a third world country like us, and you are in the first world country, what is the most used way of information or enterntainment? Emerging technology is for people with know how this comes the principle of literacy, most of the third world countries have most people who dont know how to use internet. Then what is the possibility of shifting to internet from TV?

It is sure a big step at that way, but still a lot of problems to solve, at least you will have to pay for a higher internet speed instead of the cable.

True, there some issues to solve. This is why it will still be a few years before it's all ready to rock and roll. That being said, Charter just launched its 10 meg service. That's for sure fast enough to stream live TV.

I'm surprised TV has lasted as long as it has. I would have thought it would have gone away a long time ago. I think it's only because cable companies are so big already. I think what's going to kill TV is not when people go the internet instead, but when advertisers start using the internet more than TV for advertising. Without commercials, TV is dead.

Good point, but, advertisers will always spend money on TV ads as long as people are watching it. So it really is in the hands of the users.

"So it really is in the hands of the users."

Definitely...I don't mind watching tv and have a PVR so I generally skip through the commercials. I prefer to watch tv that's pre-recorded and if a commercial is on while I'm watching something, I usually leave the room and do something constructive until I think it's over. That being said, I know that some of it works its way into my head anyway. The Internet didn't replace reading books and magazines and I don't think it will replace TV. Interactive tv will likely be an evolution of the TV we have today and the Internet and TV will likely meld into something.

The technology is already there for us to have something better than TV. I think all that keeps TV around is because of the philosophy, "if it isn't broke don't fix it."

The trend is shifting and people are now looking for the internet based home entertainment. I think in near future biggies like Google and yahoo will also jump into internet based home entertainment.
