Default Google Myths

Here are a few things that people commonly mistake for being truthful.

Having an image next to your article improves your ranking.
False, this does absolutely nothing for your rankings in the search engines.
It just helps you get your photo up in images.google.com

Publishing a sitemap helps my rankings.
Not at all. I hear this a lot though and see forums all over the place with sitemaps.
They just help locate content, not rank it.

I agree 100%. Images next to an article never improve a site's ranking in the search engines. Unique and regularly updated content, as a general rule in search engine optimization, is what positively affects ranking of a site.

Sitemaps, too, do not affect ranking directly. Indirectly, yes, for the reason that sitemaps enable the SE bots to crawl a site more efficiently and comprehensively, thereby finding content in its pages which, when fresh and unique, contributes to higher rankings.

I don't know how people got it into their heads that images in articles could help their SERPs.

I ever practice what you're saying and the result is nothing. As per what you said that is no more than just a myth for Google adsense but people keep telling this seem like that is true. Currently I'm doing some others technique which giving more adsense revenue. Maybe these 2 technique you said only relevant long time ago which on that time many people still don't about adsense.

Its common sense that pictures in large numbers and too much of graphics and animation should not be used. The spider is least interested in tagging such things. So people must use proper meta tags and content. The content must be unique and keyword density must be properly maintained.

I totally agree with those points Jerlene. I have experienced it myself too and there occurs no improvement in ranking. However, adding images adds more interest to your article and adding sitemap makes your site easier to get indexed.

Well, all I knew is when you're placing some pictures near the google banners, then you will have the chance to say "Ta-Da" to Big G! lol
