This isn't a tool created by Google, but it helps use Google's highly effective Sitemaps.

It is called GSiteCrawler

Currently in Beta it allows you to crawl your site and generates the links. I used it to create sitemaps for quite a few of my websites, as well archives of my blog.

My sites are'nt big enough needing a site map .. Navigation bar does it for me :(

Actually it is always good to create a sitemap (even if it is HTML), even if you are not submitting your site to google. This is because it helps search engines find all your links in one go.

Yeah I use GSiteCrawler to generate my Google sitemap. Great tool.

Sitemap is quite effective, better user navigation and google knows what your site links, but why not use some online tools like the xml-sitemaps?

I have been using , mypagerank.net to create my website maps, it really helps to lsit fatser and better in search engines, even if you have a small website.

Won't the search engines find all the pages on your site anyway, so long as they are all linked to?

Ideally if your site is well linked, they should.

But, at times it doesn't happen. That is where Sitemaps step in.

They are a good way of telling Google what you specifically want it to index. It will anyway go on with its usual indexing.

I don't see what this crawler does. If the site can be mapped by a crawler, then you don't need a sitemap, as Google uses crawlers. Right?
