Default No payment

What would you do/do you do if someone does not finish paying you?

It depends on who and how much. For example, if it's a lot of money, that has one route, whereas if it's not that much money, that's another. Also, corporate or personal? U.S. or International?

There are several roads you can take.

First, try to secure the payment without any outside help. write a letter to the person explaining that they have outstanding payments to make and that there is a deadline for these. You never know it may have just slipped their mind

If that fails then it is time to check your contract. You have a contract right? If you do brilliant. Write another letter explaining that if they do not pay they are in breach of their contract which is an offence. If you don't have a contract then this will be a nbit harder, you need to find some proof that they owe you money.

If they don't succed then consult a lawyer regarding court proceedings against the individual.

Depends on how much and who as well as why.

I had a client who shafted me for £135 ($250 ish) even though I was only charging for the work done. His original bill was £360 and he messed me around a lot. Thing is he was another hypnotherapist so I decided not pursue him any further but he will not get any referrals from my site )

It would have cost me as much to take him to court. Instead I know he failed to pay me because he was short of money so I just pity him for being such a fool and a liar. Time is too short to waste on idiots )

Cheers

Yes I would say for a "small amount" varies depending on a person's opinion of small, it may not be worth it to take legal action

I always try to be the strongest side in a deal, not to scamed and not paid at the end, I try to make phases with my clients, if the first payment isn't done, they won't have a complete product. It is so easy in software but so hard to apply on hard stuff. It keep my losses down & bareable.

Yeah, it is important to always have yourself covered. I would suggest that for businesses that make one-time transactions with customers, they should make it a point to receive payment before delivery. If your product is good, I'm sure most customers won't mind.
