Video games are shockingly violent. Are they too violent? What has led to this level of violence?

It seems parents aren't familiar with kid's games much, probably due to how quickly games develop and change. Parents don't understand what they need to look out for. In fact, many parents probably don't even know what their kids are playing.

Unfortunately, we can't just take the games off the market, because there are many adults who like to play these games.

What do you think?

I don't think they're too violent. The games have a rating system for a reason and if the parents choose to ignore it, then that is their problem. You have to be a certain age to buy mature rated games and yet parents just buy these games for their kids anyway. So again, parents fault.

It's the TV violence things all over again, only with computer games.

I agree with M3talc0re, parents not only have to be mindful of the type of games their kids are playing, but they also have to make sure their child is aware of the differences in fantasy and reality.

Besides, games aren't any more violent these days, they're just more realistic.

It doesn't matter if they disagree with me or not, it's just a fact. The parents just say "oh it's just a game" and don't even look at the damn ratings on video games. It just pisses me off that people are so stupid, it really does. They're trying to make our games suck just because they're too stupid to watch what their kids are playing. I can't help but compare people that say video games are too violent to the same retarded fat f***s that sue McDonalds and Burgerking because their food made 'em fat.

Yeah I agree it's a parent's choice. Not to mention the world is violent with death and war on the news everyday what's to shield kids? Personally I think parents should be responsible for what their kids play. They shouldn't try to force everybody else to dumb their entertainment down.

They are not to violent, its just a game, but no little kids should be playing games such as GTA or other ones like that. Its up to the parents to decide what is good for their child to play. Its as simple as that.
