I hear the IPB is very good software for forums, and cheaper than vBulletin. However, it does cost money and there are free options such as SMF and phpBB. Is IPB better than those? Is it enough better to make it worth the money?

Yes it is at least its cheaper than Vbulletin and I'd always go for paid service as you usually get what you've paid for in terms of these forum softwares.

They're alright but they have limited support. All the IPB support forums are very slow.
They have good features but nothing you couldn't get with a free forum software.

Yes IPB in my opinion is the best forum software I've seen it used on loads of sites I mod on and its faster than VB most of the time also it has great features.

IPB is my favorite forum tool, and it is worth the money if you have the money :)

IPB is fine, but vB is definitely the best one out there. If money is issue then I could recommend IPB which is way to cheap over vB. Maybe you can switch to vB later on.

I don't like the design of IPB and there aren't a lot of templates out there.
