vb is nice but too much money and you pay every single year, i wouldnnt do that.
So SMF is the next option and its very handy ;)

SMF is very easy to customize, they are also template that are free for the community and the support is good even if you are not a charter member.

I agree with Ajay and Dana, if you have the money go for vBulletin. If no cash, get SMF because it is a pleasure to work with.

Just go with the owned option? It's a few bucks more, but it will save a LOT of cash in the long run.

True, but you need to keep purchasing support every year.

That's what I liked about IPB. One time purchase and support for as long as you use it. Don't know if it has changed now.

Definitely vB for a large community like DigitalPoint or preCharge. But if you're looking at <1000 you can try SMF or phpBB

Well, I don't think we can disregard SMF on this. Afterall the SMF Websites community is itself powered by SMF!
