Domain names sell for stupid money these days with markets being set up exclusivly to buy and sell domain names. The problem is this has led to cyber squatting and mass domain name buying with people buying up domain names just in case they may be worth money at some point.

There are practically no legible 4 letter domain names and hardly any alapha-numeric 3 letters around. Alot of these have been bought exclusivly for
selling on again.

5,6 and 7 letter domain names are still around but dont expect to find any like house.com or money.com.

The best tactic is to try and spot an upcoming trend in the market and buy a domain name ready to sell. Another tactic has been to buy names of celerbrities and thier children in the hope of someone buying them. This has led to parents buying domain names for their children.

Is this practice good? Not really. Will it continue? Oh yeah. Will I be taken part? Probably. :)

Due to the fact that business is the main category on the internet, the domain business.com is 1 of the most popular domains. (Next to others like internet.com and various names like that). There is sites that can sell for billions, but they are actual sites. If business.com was fully developed, this site would have sold for alot more.

8 Million is penny change for actual developed sites, I think that a leading company like eBay should have thought of this purchase. It would be a major decision for alot of large companys, a true investment.

When all the normal domains are took (Most are) then the value goes up, every day the sites become worth (X) more than they were the day before. So preserving a domain, or creating a site out of this domain will make the value worth alot more.

Thanks,
Jason

This has made it very hard to buy good domain names nowdays :'(

I have recently spent ages trying different word combinations including using hyphens to buy a domain that at least kind of related to my new site. Everything I tried had allready been taken but none had been developed, was really enoying.

Luckily I ended up finding a decent domain name that they must of missed in that catagory.

The domain market may come down, though. This is because we are seeing more and more domains outside of .com. For business, .biz has become popular. .net is also good. .ws is newer, but growing.
