A lot of the expensive domains are made expensive by the website on the domain rather than the domain. For example, google.com the domain would be worthless if it wasn't for google.com the company.

Well, this is the interesting and bizarre thing of the domain name, as long as the domain name is a well known and prestige one, it can be sold for a astronomically high price!
