How Much does the domain name affect?

hey!
i am new out here and had this doubt in my mind.
How does a domain name (.com .biz .org .info .mobi etc etc ) affect ?
why is it that a .com is expensive and a .info is cheap.
Any particular reasons ?

A .com generally attracts better traffic and is the most commonly used extension. That's why they are costlier than the rest.

.coms usually get more type in traffic.
