I used to do this and it can be very, very profitable. But I was fortunate to start out with some domains I had owned since '96

The big thing is to make sure when buying a domain for resell from another person is that you are sure that it's going to be resaleable and that it's not a buy that is driven by emotions. Otherwise, a person can go broke very fast :)

The more popular the domain, the more valuable it will be of course. But, there is good money to be made in purchasing and reselling domains. It's kinda like the stock market, buy low and sell high.

I'm not really into buying and selling domains but I had a few unused domains that I had to sell before.

I have tried selling domain names in auction sites, forums and other avenues. But this has not been profitable for me. I ended up losing my domain names since I failed to renew these on time.

The most I have ever sold a domain for was around 800 dollars through Sedo last year. I registered the domain 6 months before that for 10 dollars. I think that an 8000 % return on investment is pretty good.
