Question Q about domain transfer

Can we transfer our domain to another registrar just 1 month or a couple of weeks before it expires?

Yeah sure as long as transferring was part of your features. But it won't magically renew itself.

Thank You

That is right, also I have seen some registrars lock domain transfers one month before it expires, mainly those who gave it for little price on first year then raise the price, so they don't want customers to win and they take nothing.

A registrar cannot lock your transfer. It is upto you to transfer it. If a registrar does this, you can write to ICANN to get this.

I've done just one transfer from MyDomain to my own service of one domain as a test.

The whole procedure takes around a week or so to be completed.

MyDomain gave me a special offer of cheaper registrations and renewals for the lifetime of my account if I didn't transfer :)
Anyway, I still did it because my services are cheaper than mydomain :)

Usually registrars renew your domain for the next year when you transfer to them

The losing registrar cannot charge you any fees as it is against ICANN rulings. The winning registrar charges you transfer fees and renews your domain for the next year.

Most of the registrars give nice offer like half the price of the renewal fee for a year when you transfer a domain to them. So, is it okay if someone hops from registrar to registrar just to avail of 'discounted' renewal?

It is ok, but would you want to be jumping so often to save a dollar here and there a year?
Too much trouble in my opinion.
