An online writing friend uses a pseudonym for all her writing blogs and someone recently bought the www.___.com name she was using and offered to sell it to her for $700.00
She was planning to register it eventually but hadn't gotten around to it and now really doesn't want to pay for it. She could use a .net or .ca or something like that but knows the page rankings are always better with a .com so she's kicking herself.

I would have liked to have my writing name as a .com but it exists and although it hasn't been updated in over 2 years, the person has it registered until 2008. I really don't want a .ca or .net so will likely come up with something else.

Anyway, word to the wise...park it as soon as you can or someone else might want you to pay big bucks for it!!

Ahhh, so you're a collector of domains? LOL.
Do you sell them or just park ones that you think you 'might' want to some day use?

I for one buy up all the TLDs of my domain name.

Which ends up me having a good collection of domains .... well brand identity.

A little bit of both, actually. The ones I really think I might need or don't want anyone else to have I hold on to. Some of the ones I just buy when they come to mind I'll sell when I finally talk myself into the idea that I'll probably never develop them.

I need to start registering domains when they come to mind. I have a lot of ideas that I may want to develop in the future. I just need to find a trustworthy and easy-to-use registrar, because I've heard bad things about my current one.

I'm frequently watch out for the bargain at the Godaddy and Hostgator. If I find out there is a great deal, I will surely purchase the domains in bulk order and keep in for future use...
