They say AMD takes longer to overheat, so it might be better for powerful pc's for 3D designers among other things that require alot of CPU usage.
Intel for games i've heard.

Damn are you people lost :/

Oh, and FTW = "For The Win".

(i can understand how fast a 3800+ is, as opposed to an Intel 380 or something)
Without looking it up, how fast is that exactly? Speed also varies on what core the cpu is ;)
CPU speed isn't everything, and these days, speed isn't really much at all :/
AMD was leading the way in gaming while Intel was better for media (music, graphics, etc..). Intel is now starting to gain some head room in the gaming department as well while AMD isn't lacking in media developement either. Not to mention quad core will be out soon... I've used AMD in the past two rigs I built (first was AMD AthlonXP 2500+ Barton core OC'd to 3200+, second was AMD Athlon64 3200+ Venice core). I think when I get my comp back and upgrade it though, I'll probably go with an Intel cpu this time arround and see how it fairs. I wont upgrade anything though until Windows Vista comes out and I see some DX10 video cards...

AMD - I have a Turion 64 in my laptop, at the time it was the only mobile 64 bit processor available (ie not a desktop chip)
I find it to be very fast and doesn't produce a lot of heat, plus I get a long battery life

I'm using AMD, but I don't really have a preference.

Althougt most of my friends keep telling me that the AMD is much better than the Intel, but I still didn't try it until today, as I was satisfied with the Intel performance!
