Benfit to using Linux?
Why should you use linux? I can't really come up with a good reason myself. Since most of the programs that are free are ported to windows anyway. What does Linux has that Windows does not offer? |

simple.
1.- Open source. Obviously, if you are not a developer, you don't care. 2.- Much much much better community. Which I actually understand. I worked for a MS company for couple of months and what MS doing so called tech support is unbelievable! (it was not like this before, though). You have to pay money for their techsupport... I just didn't get it. I already paid $3000 for the software... why should I pay for more tech support? okay, let's say I paid $250 for some stupid setup. And somebody asks me how did I do it? Am I gonna tell the person a "secret" which cost me $250??? probably NOT! The other thing is that Linux is not necessarily cheaper or free (as free program) I picked Linux simply because I don't have to wait bugfixes for months and I can run my the newest distrib on my 600MHz laptop with 128Mb RAM. (try this with a WinXP or Vista ;) ) hehe

I dual boot but 99% of the time I boot into my linux partition just because I prefer the look and UI and because all my favourite tools such as KATE are not available on the windows system. Jamie

If I had a second machine, I would definately give Linux a whirl. But until that day, I will stick to what I know.
Besides, I simply don't have time to learn a new OS.

I had put ubuntu on one of my laptops and I ordered a kubuntu CD from France (it got here in 3 weeks ;) and put it on one of my PCs) I love these distros, definitely give 'em a try!

One thing i've heard about it is that it dose'nt have any security or malware problems, well same could be said for windows if proper security is applied.. Then you have to use all those emulators to do much of the stuff, so there is'nt any benefit of using Linux over windows but its just that if you are frasturated with one, you like to jump to the second ;) ..
