I am thinking about building a new computer. I will be leaving for the middle east in 5 months so its not exactly the smartest idea but I have money to burn. I am wondering what all uses I could get out of my current rig as a home server. All I would really need to do is throw a 500 gig HD in it and it would be a solid server.

I can have 1 monitor hooked up to the new computer and have complete control over the server through the new machine right? Could I literaly surf the web on the server while being on my main machine? What all uses could I get out of the server other then file storage?

It would be better if you go for the branded stuff as you will be using the system for the server. The best thing about the branded stuff it that it has resale value which will help you if you resale it.
