Actually, ZipDisks were quite popular in their day. In fact, more than 50 million Iomega Zip drives were sold worldwide!
Currently, Iomega has a 35GB "Rev" drive which takes a 35GB hard disk "cartridge" They expect to have a 280GB model on the market by 2010. Zipdisks might be antiquated, but Iomega is more than still in the game.

i think i have mine somewhere in the house, i dont use it anymore ofcourse, i guess you could say it’s time ended, which is about to happen with disks too although they are lasting a bit because of the ability of instant tranfere rather than burning and because windows sometimes uses disks, however usb drives are starting to take over that and are also better, as long as the pc can read them before booting windows.

the idea of a zipdisk was good because compared to cds, it might be smaller, but still it cant be damaged as easily. i dont know about the rev drives, but they are probably very good too, i just didnt hear about them.
