people are getting vista and paying for more than one copy already for their pcs, but is it really worth it ? which functions make you want it already instead of xp, and cant xp just get those functions with addons ?

Vista doesn't offer too many new things so that you can shell out a few hundred dollars. Maybe there are a few good points, but not worth spending so much on. Windows XP will have support for many more years to come and will also see the Service Pack 3. So there is no point in upgrading to Vista yet!

Yes there is a point in upgrading to vista.
1. Better security for your computer less viruses. Even though if your careful you don't get them. 2. While it may be new it is by far the best OS Windows has produced. 3. Loads of new features to help you with your work. 4. There are different versions of Vista: Home Basic, Home Premium, Business Basic, Business Premium, and Ultimate 5. It's graphics are amazing. (Not really a reason but nice to have) 6. While it may be buggy SP1 for Vista coming out in the second half of the year I believe promises more features and of course any fixed bugs there are. I know none of those reasons sound good enough to buy it but you won't regret upgrading. If you have any questions about it just ask me. I love my Vista.

There are many new features but the drawback is that Vista occupies 15GB of disk space and moreover it needs 1GB RAM. So, before upgrading to Vista you need to spend a few bucks for buying new Hard Drive and increasing RAM.

And the moment i don't need to have the mentioned functions. Some of them might be nice and useful, but right now i can live very well with what i've got. Therefore my switch to Vista isn't because of these reasons. It's just that we'll have to upgrade at work sooner or later and then i'll upgrade at home, too.

The main reason I say that upgrading to Vista takes time is that it costs a lot of money. Not many of us can afford the original copy of Vista. And it would make no sense buying the Starter Edition or the Home Edition.
Plus, you'll have to most certainly upgrade your hardware. My question to you guys - is it worth that much money ? |

yea, that is the whole point, there is no reason to be hasty and buy it, and about the points you give superstrikertwo, as you said none of them seem to be enough to make one upgrade. every one of the points can be added to xp atm. however a question, what do you mean by improved graphics? just templates and better looking icons ? if so then that is more of a reason not to upgrade before getting a new pc that would include vista in the pack, as i wouldnt want to put more strain on a pc. i normally always remove fancy looks to make a pc work faster.
