my pc just stop working a moment ago, so I'm using my laptop. The problem started when i tried to power it up after cleaning it up a bit from all the dust, it started making noises, and i was trying everything to try and make it work again. a sparkle came out of the power supply and now it wont power up. does that mean the motherboard and the rest of the hardware have been damaged, or only the power supply?

It sounds like it's the power supply. However, if the short caused a power surge, I wouldn't hold a lot of hope for the motherboard.
Out of curiosity, what kind of machine is/was it?

was the computer already on when that happened, or was it off and it did that when you turned it on ? also if you have more computers, then try to use some of the hardware on them to see if anything happened. you should also try switching the powersupply to see it is the problem.

it is sad that your motherboard got damaged, but atleast you know that now and atleast some of the parts werent damaged, so there is a bright side. you should consider buying a good pc so things like this wont happen that often, and even better if you build one yourself.

if the rest of the parts aren't damaged and are still good enough, then i dont think you should buy a new pc, just buy a brand new motherboard and power supply, no need to leave the parts you already have if you checked them and they worked.

If you ask me , it is wise to get a new motherboard, than a whole system. There are lots of new motherboards available in the market.Besides you can use it as a chance to upgrade your system .Instead of getting a new system ,you can invest the same amount in a smashing motherboard and a 4 Gb ram as well
