Have you ever looked at your task manager under Processes and seen several entries for svchost.exe? Ever wonder what these processes are?

I came across this which has finally answered exactly what svchost.exe does.

FYI: SVCHOST.EXE is generic computer application that runs "background" computer processes. If that doesn't make any sense, just think of it as an application that helps make your computer run. Services don't directly have user interfaces -- they just run in the background, normally quiet and hopefully out of the way, but performing often critical functions that keep your computer running -- things like making your Internet connection work.

Just came across this old post...

It should be noted that svchost.exe (note the lowercase) is part of the windows OS.

I found out later that SVCHOST.EXE (uppercase) may be some kind of intrusion, be it viral or adware, etc, and you should take steps in correcting this.

I won't go into detail, but just do a search for this and you'll find more info.

was that SCVHOST.EXE or SVCHOST.EXE? hope it is only typo, since they are different.
