Yes, the traffic out there is incredible.
Unless you find a true niche, promotion can be quite difficult. Especially in the areas of Tech and Search Engine Optimization/Web design.

of course blogging is the most popular and hot thing in the web 2.0 era. I feel that almost anyone will jump into starting blogging but only a few will continue with it. Only those update regularly will make this way of sharing your knowledge more interesting and more popular. Blogging is actually evolving!
