SMF won't install

I've been using SMF for a while now, mostly on my local machine for testing and writing mods, but when I tried to install it on my SourceForge web space, SMF won't install.
I freshly extracted SMF here a few days ago to see if I could get it to work.

The first thing that comes up is an error regarding the files not being writable as you can see, but they are. I've checked and rechecked each one of the files, and they're all mode 777 (everyone can read+write+exec). I thought maybe it was the ownership of the files that was bugging SMF, but I can't change that. Is there any way to fix this or get around the file mode checking?

You'll have to ask the admin who owns the server.

I also recommend you remove "install.php" to stop people from exploiting your forum. They could have an admin account before you even have one yourself.

Yeah, that won't matter if I delete the forum and the MySQL database. I'd just like to get it going, so I left it like that so people can experiment, and if you get it working, please post how you did so.

If you don't own the server and have the correct permissions, then how are you going to fix the problem.

Ask the admin, they will normally know what the problem is. They will normally also be able to CHMOD the files for you.

CHMOD the files told to you on install.php to 777.
