I was wondering (while was watching cartoon network , few minutes ago), if everybody will make at least one directory for himself (because it so easy to make one now, you don’t have to know anything, just install a script on your hosting server), then there will be so many… This is not going to be a very useful thing for the entire web community, rite? Millions of directories, just waiting for others to submit links.
Now seriously, what’s is opinion, are all this thousands of directories really useful?

Yeh I do see what you are saying. I think as more and more people create links their usefullness will become less effective.

I think too many people are "jumping on the bandwagon" they really don't think of longterm applications. Many just think they will get free links and people will visit their websites because of this. But the way I see few users use directorires for browsing. And even so some prefer using some know directories that have reliable results. The right to take these directories is to fovus on a special subject for the directory. Like blogging or something.

I've come across directories that are almost useless because they have hardly and links on there and also that shows a sign that little traffic could be visiting that directories. I think most set them up because they can be so easy to install and setup, with hopes that they can make money through their ads.

There are already way too many neglected directories out there that I assume were put together by people who just wanted a quick buck. If you want to start a directory today, you need to have a specific/new idea if you want an edge.
