Why does alexa ranking is given so much importance when it comes to the average traffic to your site? I mean isn't Google analytics a more reliable tool. I consider even sitemeter a good options because it shows you every detail about your visitors. What do you think?

Alexa isn't really that important. It's very inaccurate and little things like installing their toolbar can boost the traffic rank so I don't know why people think it's so important.

Alexa basically reflects data pulled from only those who use it. It doesn't indicate activity of those who do not have the Alexa toolbar installed on their browsers. I use Google Analytics and Sitemeter.

In this case, I'm agree with tJerlene's opinion, as the Alexa ranking seems a little bit shaggy and inacccurate to me as well.

Thus, I wouldn't recommend my readers to use it...
