I had applied once for the Sherlock Holmes category about a few years back because I ran my site Sir Arthur Conan Doyle - His Life, All His Works and More

Was rejected. Well, never bothered again. Don't bother much even now!

Does the category have an editor? If so, you might want to drop him/her an e-mail.

Haven't bothered after that Eric, well my site (with the old URL) was listed there.

As for the new one, lets see. Until then I'm hoping to get it popular without that.

Even if you are an editor they do not allow you to do your own site. It's part of the contract they want you to sign.

That's true, but contacting the editor and working with him/her directly has produced some nice DMOZ placement for me. In fact, it got me the top link spot on a Page Ranking 6 page on a travel related category.

I'm happy.

i have never got accepted by dmoz ... dont know why, i think this site is not very good and updates very slowly.
