As a host/designer I had to offer domain names as part of the overall package.

I looked at eNom but the idea of loading up credit and having somebody blow it all by using my automated site set up was a bit daunting. I found www.planetdomain.com who provide a full API which allows me to retain an element of consistency in layout but use their system.

They are not the cheapest but they have been reliable.
